Sustaining All Life assumes that everyone is naturally intelligent, cooperative, and caring, but accumulated hurts block these qualities. Young people, if allowed, would recover from hurtful experiences through a natural healing process (by crying, trembling, raging, laughing). When we share our painful experiences fully, not holding back emotions, hurtful feelings begin to dissipate. We are freed from the behavior and feeling left by the hurt. We can regain the natural ability to heal from hurt by being listened to with caring interest by someone who understands this process and will remain relaxed in the face of our difficulties. Without this personal work it is difficult to effectively address and resolve the climate crisis.
