Loss and Damage: Nepal – who pays for climate catastrophes? (In-Person & Online)

>> Sustaining All Life at Climate Week NYC, 2026 <<

Nepal has experienced a terrible climate catastrophe. The people and government of Nepal did not cause this catastrophe; the global North and its fossil fuel industries are the culprits. Decades ago science predicted such climate catastrophes and warned they would result if timely climate action isn’t taken. Who should pay for losses and damage caused by climate disasters like this? How can we mobilize to overcome obstacles in the way of doing the right thing for the people of Nepal?
