Healing the Trauma of the Climate Crisis

>> COP27: 2022 U.N. Climate Change Conference, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, <<

This workshop will support participants to heal some of the trauma induced by the climate crisis. Awareness of the climate crisis is growing along with the existential threat that it poses for humans and all life on planet earth.  Opportunities to face and heal this trauma are not widely available to most people. In this workshop, participants will learn tools for trauma healing. Healing Climate Trauma Listening Circles led by experienced peer co-counselors will provide safe space for participants to tell their story of the trauma they experienced as a result of climate change.  Strategies to continue the healing process will be shared.

Listening circles are an adaptable, reliable way to clarify our thinking and reduce divisions in the climate movement, as well as a place for us to heal from the trauma caused by the climate crisis. Facing climate breakdown and global injustice brings up many emotions, including anger, fear, discouragement, and grief. Peer listening in small circles can allow us to heal from and release the trauma while being in community with others in our constituencies. The workshop will last for 120 minutes. It will include group listening exchanges, as well as Healing Climate Trauma Listening Circles in the workshop. It is led by Barbara Love. The workshop will be interpreted into French and Spanish.
