Youth at the forefront of the movement: mutual support to sustain our action
Young People are a revolutionary force and have been at the forefront of many important social movements, including the climate movement today. Young people can find laughter in the face of crisis and stand up for our future and the world we love.
We are told we need to save our future while at the same time, our thinking and leadership is often disrespected and our voices ignored. We can internalize this lack of respect and fail to take ourselves seriously, despite our many accomplishments.
Facing the climate change and oppression takes a toll on us and we need spaces to express and share this emotional burden.
In this workshop we will:
- Communicate our understandings of young people and young adult’s oppression and internalized oppression
- Communicate our vision for youth leadership in the climate movement and for what is needed to improve cooperation between generations
- Share tools for addressing emotional hurts such as climate anxiety and the effects of racism that we can use in our relationships and movements
- With those tools, provide a save space to listen and share to support each other
