Location: Quaker Meeting House 38 Elmbank Cres, Glasgow G2 4PS (wheel chair accessible) and Online
Hosted by: COP26 Coalition People’s Summit for Climate Justice
This forum presents activists from frontline nations, tribes, and communities in Africa, the Americas, and other communities. They will speak from their personal experiences at the forefront of the climate emergency and COVID pandemic that threatens their very existence.
The forum will highlight the intersection between the climate crisis, the pandemic and key issues like racism, colonization, genocide, etc. People on the frontlines are working to end the climate crisis while also handling a pandemic that is disproportionately bearing down on their communities. The coronavirus threatens their lives, while because of racism and colonization, communities have less access to medical care including vaccines.
Attendance at the COP has been impossible for so many. The voices of these people are key and many are missing. We want to bring in some of those voices. We need to be aware of the worldwide scope of the layers of harsh oppression people fight to end the climate crisis.
The forum is an opportunity to increase our awareness to more fully understand the worldwide scope of the climate emergency, the severe impact of the pandemic as well as learning more about how to support and follow the leadership of Indigenous and Frontline peoples.
