Racism is contrary to our fundamental nature as white people. No white person is born
racist, and we all began life being interested and caring about every other human being.
But we grew up in a society full of racist attitudes that have been a steady drip of
misinformation into our minds, affecting our thinking and our actions. Understanding and
healing the effects of racism on us as individuals is a necessary step in creating a united
movement that can sustain all life and restore our environment.
This workshop will outline how racism is installed on white people and provide listening
tools to help us to undo its impact and strengthen our connections with each other and
with people of African, Asian, and Indigenous heritage. We will look at the intersection
between racism and the climate crisis. Facing the reality of racism and climate breakdown
brings up many painful feelings. Learning how to listen effectively to each other as we face
and talk about how racism has affected us is an important “action” towards freeing our
minds and acting more decisively in ending racism in the world.
