We can still limit the tremendous harm being done to our countries and world by climate change. However, the extent of the damage is traumatizing as we witness death and the destruction of homes, villages, towns, and cities. Many of us are filled with feelings of rage, grief, and powerlessness that can get in our way of being effective advocates. Our workshop will offer tools to help us release and heal from these feelings, making us more powerful as we work to end the climate emergency.
To be more effective in working together to end the climate emergency we need to face our feelings of grief, rage and powerlessness in the face of the increasing damage to our climate, insufficient political action and the organized efforts of the fossil fuel industry to deny their role in climate change. These emotions can interfere with our ability to think and take action by making us feel like nothing can be done or we don’t make a difference.
Or, we may be fueled by rage that can lead to burnout when we don’t see immediate results or to ineffective strategies for making change. This workshop will support participants to heal some of the trauma induced by the climate crisis–an opportunities not widely available to most people. Participants will learn listening tools for trauma and grief healing. Healing Circles led by experienced peer co-counselors will provide a safe space for participants to tell their story of the trauma they experience in the climate crisis. Strategies to continue the healing process will be shared.
