For thousands of years Indigenous peoples have played an important role as stewards of the land. They continue to call our attention to the harmful practices of our societies. They lead us in our work to end the climate emergency. Indigenous nations have been devastated by colonialism, genocide, and imperialism over a long period of time. As a result, they are more heavily impacted by climate change and often lack the resources to either move out of harm’s way or adapt to the damage climate change is causing. Indigenous knowledge must be incorporated in climate solutions.
